Full tasting note and wine making – Ca’di Ponti Nero d’Avola from Sicily is a deeply coloured, full-flavoured, spicy red wine with aromas of ripe plum and black cherry. The palate combines warm, juicy red fruit flavours with savoury, lightly smoky characters and a hint of bitter chocolate on the long finish. The grapes for this wine are sourced from southern Sicily, around Riesi which is Nero d’Avola’s traditional heartland. It is all fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks and bottled whilst young without any oak aging thus retaining the lovely fresh fruit notes evident in this wine. The Producer – The Ca’di Ponti Nero d’Avola from Sicily is made by Adria Vini which is a wine making venture jointly owned by Boutinot and Araldica Castelvero that was established in 2003. It is the leading co-operative in the Monferrato hills of Piemonte and aims to produce authentic, well-priced still and sparkling wines from local grape varieties. All aspects of production, from grape selection through to vinification, maturation, blending and bottling are meticulously overseen by Araldica’s winemaking team of Claudio Manera, Lella Burdese and Carlo Manera. Total production is twelve million bottles annually and the wines are exported to more than twenty countries around the world. This large co-operative sources grapes from a high number of private growers and other cooperatives businesses throughout Italy, with whom they have long term relationships. They are principally in the Veneto, Friuli, Lombardy, Sicily, Puglia, Abruzzo and Sardinia. Drink with – Great to drink with juicy home-made burgers with a slab of mozarella cheese, or with charred lamb steaks.
