Intro to Domaine Bott First Flight Viognier – Domaine Bott First Flight Viognier is a crisp dry Rhone white with lots of style Full tasting note an wine making – Domaine Bott First Flight Viognier is a fresher, more linear style of Viognier than you’d expect from the Northern Rhône full of obvious ripe white peaches. The vines for this wine are planted on granite soils in the elevated villages of Ampuis and Condrieu and after fermentation in stainless steel tanks it is aged for nine months in French oak barrels. The producer – It is a rare thing to find a young domaine that has recently planted its own vineyards in the prestigious appellations of the Northern Rhône. Graeme and Julie Bott are creating something very special here. Winemaker Graeme is from Auckland and after winemaking jobs in Hawkes Bay and Waiheke he came to France to discover Syrah in its finest terroir, becoming winemaker at Stéphane Ogier for eight years. It was here he met Julie, the winery’s sales manager and a Northern Rhône native. Now they both make wine together for their own winery in Ampuis. Drink with – Domaine Bott First Flight Viognier is a great match with fish and chicken dishes.
